Financial Education & Strategy

Nobody handed you a manual for money.

We wrote one.

Sonya Welch-Lightford spent two decades inside financial services learning how credit, funding, and business capital actually work then built Boss Moms Chicago to teach it to the women who were never taught at all.

Most of us were taught algebra. Not APR.

Somewhere between school and adulthood, most people are handed a credit card, a lease, and eventually a business idea — without ever getting a single lesson on how any of it actually works. Not through any fault of their own. It's simply never taught.

That gap shows up everywhere: in credit files nobody knows how to read, in business funding that feels like a locked room, in financial decisions made on guesswork instead of understanding. Boss Moms Chicago exists to close that gap — through direct, structured financial education.

Meet Your Guide

An educator first.

A teacher, always.

With over two decades of experience in financial services, Sonya Welch-Lightford, MBA is the CEO of Boss Moms Chicago, LLC — a trusted name in financial literacy training, tax education, and entrepreneurial development.

Her approach isn't about quick fixes. It's about giving people the same financial literacy that's historically been reserved for those with a banker in the family: how credit files are built, how lenders generally evaluate risk, how businesses get funded, and how those systems work.

As a serial entrepreneur and educator, Sonya has taught thousands of individuals and families the fundamentals of personal finance, and helped a growing number of them apply that knowledge to businesses of their own.

The Philosophy

Understand the system.

Then use it.

Every program is built around the same idea: you should understand exactly what's happening with your credit and your money at every step — not just hand it off and hope.

Credit Literacy

How your file really works

What's typically reportable, what disputes generally involve, and how utilization, mix, and history are commonly understood to relate to your three scores — explained in plain language, not jargon.

Money Management

Budgeting as a business skill

Tools and habits for tracking spending, reviewing your own reports monthly, and protecting your identity — so learning isn't undone by what happens in between.

Business Funding

Capital, explained clearly

Entity setup, vendor tradelines, funding sequencing — the framework most business owners are never taught, explained step by step instead of left as a black box.

The Curriculum

Questions

Before you start

What's the difference between Silver and Gold?

Silver is fully self-paced - you work through the curriculum and templates on your own schedule. Gold includes everything in Silver plus live group training sessions and expanded templates, for those who want more real-time instruction as they learn.

Is this a guarantee that my score will go up?

No program can lawfully promise a specific score increase, and Boss Moms Chicago doesn't make that promise. We provide education, templates, and tools — you apply what you learn, and results depend on your own credit history and actions.

I'm brand new to all of this. Where do I start?

Most beginners start with Silver or Gold to build personal credit knowledge first. Platinum is best once you're ready to learn business credit structuring and funding, since it builds on those fundamentals.

Do you contact credit bureaus or creditors on my behalf?

No. Boss Moms Chicago is an educational company. Our curriculum, templates, and tools teach you how these processes generally work — any letters, disputes, or applications are prepared and submitted by you.

How do I choose between the three tracks?

Reach out with your questions. We're happy to explain what's covered in each curriculum so you can pick the learning track that fits your goals.
